A DECADE ago, few people owned outdoor pizza ovens. You had to be a serious ’za aficionado with big bucks to afford a commercial-grade model priced in the thousands. But these days, there are several compact, less expensive options on the market—and some of the best cook up sizzling hot Neapolitan-style pies that are the real deal.
One of our favorites—and Oprah’s—comes from Solo Stove: the Pi Pizza Oven, which debuted a few months ago and is currently on sale at Amazon for 20% off.
It stands to reason that the brand best-known for its top-notch smokeless fire pits can produce a terrific wood-burning pizza oven, made of stainless steel featuring a 13mm-thick reversible cordierite pizza stone that can hit 750 degrees Fahrenheit.

The circular pizza oven is large enough to make 12-inch pies and is arguably more attractive than the competition, with its demi-dome top and wide mouth. It’s roughly the size of a small microwave, at about 20 inches wide and 15 inches high—and at just over 30 pounds, it’s not unreasonably heavy, so you can carry it from the house to the backyard or deck.
Another big plus is its dual-fuel design that allows you to convert it to propane with a gas burner, sold separately. As for where to use it, set it down on any waist-high surface with some heat-resistance, like unfinished wood, brick, or granite.
If you want to make the investment and take advantage of the discount—now priced at $500 down from $650—here’s fair warning to light a fire under your butt, and snag one while you can.
