Emily Ratajkowski Says She ‘Doesn’t Really Believe in Straight People’

Model, actress and author Emily Ratajkowski has a green couch. This is important information for reasons which will soon become clear.

“My girlfriend came over and was like, ‘Bitch, have you seen the green-couch thing?’” Ratajkowski said in a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar. “She was laughing at me because my green couch is so big.” The aforementioned “green-couch thing” is a reference to an ongoing meme on TikTok, where people who identify as bisexual joke that they all seem to have the same tastes in furniture. Ratajkowski, who has nearly 2 million followers on the platform, found it so funny that she made a tongue-in-cheek video on the topic, prompting the entire world to interpret that as her “coming out.”

She has since deleted the TikTok video, presumably due to the widespread speculation that a simple joke sparked surrounding her sexuality, not dissimilarly to the harassment that Heartstopper actor Kit Connor recently received from so-called fans who felt like they deserved to know the ins and outs of how he identifies. Connor eventually felt so much pressure to comment that he ended up coming out as bisexual on Twitter before he was ready, despite that being the absolute opposite of the message of Heartstopper.

Ratajkowski, on the other hand, has declined to comment further on her own sexual orientation, because nobody is entitled to that. However, she has slightly clarified her own views on human sexuality as a whole. In the Harper’s interview, she said: “I think sexuality is on a sliding scale. I don’t really believe in straight people.”

Which will, hopefully, lead more people to examine the nuances of their own sexuality, rather than getting all up in everyone else’s business.
