After years of experience and success, an era ended for the sides of Gen.G and the legendary bot laner Ruler. The South Korean player has left the organization to pursue his professional League of Legends career elsewhere. Ruler had competed for the organization for five years and stuck with the team even after name changes and rebranding processes.

Ruler’s Incredible Career

Ruler’s career started back in 2018 in the second South Korean division, CK. He played for Stardust and had the chance to show his capabilities against some of the upcoming talented of the region. Despite failing to achieve anything worth at the second division, he still received an offer from Samsung Galaxy to compete at LCK, the highest level of the competition. Ruler made his name known under the Samsung Galaxy roof. Despite their average results regionally, Samsung Galaxy played on a different level at Worlds 2016. They reached the grand final but couldn’t finish the job, getting swept by SK Telecom T1.

Ruler’s career saw its peak in 2017. Samsung Galaxy once again failed to win the league but this time they finished the job. Samsung Galaxy had a magnificent run at Worlds 2017 and lifted the trophy, surpassing most of the LoL Worlds betting fans. Back in the day, Ruler was considered the best player in the world by many fans.

Samsung Galaxy rebranded to KSV Esports and Ruler stayed within the team. However, KSV failed to attend any international tournaments and rebranded once again after the season came to an end. The team’s name became Gen.G and Ruler was still there to prove his worth after an unsuccessful year with KSV Esports. Gen.G reached the Worlds 2022 Quarter Finals and Worlds 2021 Semi Finals. The organization has also played two LCK Finals during that time.

Finally, Gen.G signed Chovy and managed to win the LCK title this year. They were the favorites of the Worlds 2022 trophy alongside the LPL champions, JD Gaming. However, Gen.G failed to get past the semi final stage after losing to DRX, one of the lowest-tier teams on everyone’s LoL Worlds power rankings, and the season ended for the team. After the season ended, Ruler decided not to move on with the team and join another organization to pursue his professional career.

Where will he go next?

Ruler is still one of the best LoL players in the world. He is now even more experienced than before and multiple teams are probably thinking about signing the world-class bot laner. He will eventually sign with an organization but there are different paths that he could pick. Firstly, Ruler can stay in LCK and join another contender team to win the league again. Secondly, he could join a team from LPL and go abroad for the first time in his career. His joining a western team is not on the table as neither party probably don’t think about the move. Finally, we could also see him retiring and focusing on content creation.

There are many paths that Ruler can choose and we need to wait for his decision. Until then, anything is possible but Ruler’s retirement announcement may upset many fans.
